Short Stories Are Tall Tales in Skullkickers #18

SHORT STORIES ARE TALL TALES IN SKULLKICKERS #18

Anthology issue of Image Comics series features top talent

Jim Zub\’s SKULLKICKERS is a cult hit, thanks to its hilarious writing, vibrant art, and, well, ample skull-kicking. The Image title has so much monster-bashing and face-smashing that it simply can\’t be expressed by one creative team. So, with SKULLKICKERS #18, some of independent comics\’ best and brightest will be pitching in with stories of their own in the latest \”Tavern Tales\” issue, a collection of short stories.

Included in the mix are John Layman and Rob Guillory (CHEW), Justin Jordan and Tradd Moore (THE STRANGE TALENT OF LUTHER STRODE), Blair Butler (HEART), Charles Soule (27), and J. Torres (Teen Titans Go!, Batman: The Brave and the Bold).

The spotlight is on Aubrey Sitterson and Ivan Anya, however — the creative team won the SKULLKICKERS Tavern Tales contest and will have their short story featured in SKULLKICKERS #18.

\”We put out the call to fans of Skullkickers or any creative comic creators at all — submit your Skullkickers short story ideas or submit a two-page sample of artwork based on a script excerpt we had posted at www.skullkickers.com,\” explained series creator and writer Zub. \”With over 300 entries, it was incredibly difficult narrowing it down to one writer and one artist, but in the end Aubrey Sitterson and Ivan Anya popped to the top of their respective groups and their short story collaboration is going to knock people out!\”

Sidle up to the bar, order an ale, and get ready to hear some tall tales! SKULLKICKERS #18 (JUL120516) will be in stores on September 26 and can be pre-ordered now.

Skullkickers #17 is In Stores Now!

Skullkickers #17 is in stores now! I’m incredibly proud of this third story arc and our fans seem to agree that we’ve delivered the goods once again.

Here are links to some of the reviews rolling in:

Comic Buzz: “9/10. The Skullkickers are at their best when things are at their most insane and this arc is a boat full of crazy.”

Fanboy Comics: “Skullkickers is perfect for fans of fantasy adventure or just anyone looking for a fun, violent read that will leave them in stitches.”

Geeks of Doom: “…there are few comics on shelves right now that match Skullkickers in terms of pure unfiltered insanity. This is why comics are made and why we love reading them so much.”

One Geek Nation: “5/5. The story itself flows so damn smoothly, you’d think you’re going down a waterslide. Jim Zub is quickly becoming the next best thing in comics.”

Product of my Dreams: “10/10. This is my second time reading Skullkickers and my excitement for this series hasn’t left yet.”

Quick Gen Con Wrap-Up

Got in the door after a 9 and a half hour drive home from Indianapolis, so forgive me if this is brief.

In short, Gen Con 2012 was everything I hoped it would be. Tons of amazing people, fun gaming and record sales at the Tracy Hickman / Schlock Mercenary / Skullkickers booth. We had an absolute blast.

Thank you to Howard Tayler and Tracy Hickman for giving me a space to exhibit at. Your friendship and encouragement made this all possible.

Thank you to the Kokomo Irregulars, Tracy\’s incredible staff, for running the booth and creating the most organized and welcoming con space imaginable.

Thank you to Andrew Hackard, Monica Valentinelli and everyone else at Steve Jackson Games for rocking out Munchkin-Skullkickers and promoting it so well at the show.

Thank you to Andrew Huerta, Erik Mona, Lisa Stevens, James Sutter and everyone else at Paizo for making the Pathfinder #1 launch so successful.

And, last but never least, thank you to the many, many Skullkickers, Munchkin and Pathfinder fans who came by to visit, buy books and get stuff signed. The response to all the hard work that\’s gone into the new Pathfinder series was overwhelmingly positive. Seeing return customers from last year who were back for another volume of Skullkickers was also a real joy.

The Gen Con crowd is truly our bedrock and I\’m incredibly grateful for all the support. Click on the pic below for more photos from the show:
